Portraits of Main Street
The Preservation Coalition is involved with the Portraits of Main Street project. This is a yearlong, after school project led by Squeaky Wheel in which about 20 high school students will produce documentaries of topics related to Main Street. For more information about the project, please see Squeaky Wheel's website, www.squeaky.org.
The Preservation Coalition is acting as history consultant, and as such, will provide a framework or foundation of knowledge about Main Street including architecture, history, etc., and assist individual students with research on their chosen topics. We are now in the phase of recruiting student participants, and a big part of that is recruiting teachers to recruit students.
We are working on a Main Street trivia quiz. Teachers will be able to use this or part of it in introducing the project to their classes.
This quiz is a great opportunity to let everyone know about a fairly major project we are involved in. If you have any other questions to suggest, or corrections for that matter, please send them along. Be sure to send answers, too. If you know how many miles Route 5 is, or when the Metro Rail was completed, that would also be appreciated.
Lastly, if you are interested in becoming involved with this project, help would be greatly appreciated. A variety of knowledge and talents is going to be critical in success here.
